Ask Kristy

On April 28, 2011, in Kristy's Korner, Nutrition/Diet, by KristysKorner

From time to time I will do an “Ask Kristy” segment.  In this segment, I will answer your questions about positive thinking, healthy eating, and physical fitness.  If you have questions that you would like for me to address in future segments, please email them to me at krispie_3@yahoo.com.

1) “What really should be organic and what can you skip?”

You should buy organic fruits and vegetables that have no peel, thin peels, or skins that you would eat, such as strawberries, apples, and potatoes. The potential for herbicides and pesticides to remain on those items, even after being rinsed, or to seep into the fruit or vegetable is pretty high. You can skip organic for any fruits or vegetables with thick skins that you will be removing before consuming, such as watermelon, avacado, and oranges.

2) “What if food is low in calories, but high in sodium? How do you balance it out, or decide what to get and what not to get?”

I avoid any food that is high in sodium, regardless of the calorie count. If the food is under 200mg of sodium, I will choose the product with the lower calories. However, if the food has more than 200mg of sodium, I will choose the product with less sodium. If the product has more than 500mg of sodium, I usually do not buy it.

3) ‘How do you handle boundary busters? People that say “oh a little bit isn’t gonna hurt you” or “if you keep losing weight your gonna wither away.” ‘

I have come to realize that people who make these statements are often jealous of the effort and results that they are seeing in you. I decided, instead of getting frustrated or angry with people who try to sabatage my efforts, I treat them like they are kidding and laugh. Then I tell them that they are more than welcome to eat it, but I don’t want any. If they say “if you keep losing weight your gonna wither away,” I explain that I have a goal weight and clothes size and once I reach that goal, I will stop. They do not need to worry, because I won’t wither away. I also thank them for the compliment!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  Remember to MOVE YOUR BODY!

NOTE: We will be putting up a brand new blog for Kristy’s Move Your Body Transformation very soon. If you like this and her other segments make sure to sign up for our email newsletter and you will be put on the list once it’s up.
